Government Health and Safety Legislation relating to working at heights
has severely restricted use of ladders. Of even
greater importance, more inspectors are enforcing the “overriding
principle” from the HSE that “You (the employer)
must do all that is reasonably practicable to prevent anyone
from falling.” This principle directs more and more
tasks off ladders and scaffolding and onto powered access
platforms.
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974
Regulations that set out the responsibilities of employers
and employees with regard to safety in the workplace. Health
and safety at work provides the legal umbrella for the
various safety regulations, which have been developed for
specific industries and activities.
